We are excited to share that Claus Sinding has been appointed Project Lead for the development of a new ISO standard: “ISO 19885-3 High Flow Hydrogen Fueling Protocols for Heavy Duty Road Vehicles”

Claus’s expertise is recognized globally, with an impressive 9-year track record in hydrogen fueling regulations, codes, and standards (RCS). His leadership in the EU-funded PRHYDE Project and representation in the H70HF Industry group alongside giants like Shell, Toyota, Hyundai, Air Liquide, and Nikola has been instrumental.

It is a great honor to be selected for this lead role by the leadership of the ISO Hydrogen Technologies Committee, and subsequently approved unanimously by national ISO committees around the world," says Claus Sinding. "Years of contributions to hydrogen fueling and safety have led to this moment, where the hydrogen automotive industry has placed its trust in Cavendish to pave the way for high-flow hydrogen fueling of heavy-duty road vehicles. In 2014, we standardized hydrogen fueling protocols in SAE J2601, which enabled 3 minutes fueling time of Hydrogen Fuel Cell passenger cars of various brands, making it comparable to filling gasoline or diesel cars. Now, we are determined to enable fueling time of H2 FCEV trucks to be comparable to filling diesel trucks!

A Hydrogen Fueling Protocol determines the optimal filling speed and when to stop, based on key information about Hydrogen Filling Stations and H2 FCEVs. Without appropriate protocols, a Hydrogen Filling Station may either fill too aggressively, risking damage to H2 FCEVs, or too slowly, making it comparable to a battery charging station. Therefore, standards are essential for public hydrogen filling stations to ensure fast and safe refueling for H2 FCEV drivers.

At Cavendish, we have been at the forefront of hydrogen standards for the past decade. Our continued contributions help shape the future of hydrogen safety and fueling standards.
